You may think by the title and this picture that Josh is just lucky to have all these dogs sit still for a great picture. But in the center of this wild pack lays Lucky, his sweet pup of the past 11 years.
Today, Josh made the grown up decision based on the advise of the vet that Lucky would be better in Heaven playing with Buzz and Zeus. The thought of her in pain just to eat was enough, the comfort of knowing she won't be alone in Heaven helped.
Josh's Dad wrote this touching letter:
Don’t look at it so much as death, but as a celebration of life.
Lucky … was truly .. " A LUCKY DOG"
Here is how it all started...
In December of 2000 we (Kim, Josh & I) visited the dog pound to pick out a dog as a Christmas gift for Josh. The dog we picked was Buzz. Then we came across the cage that contained Lucky. Both were about 6-8 months old. We could not decide between the two. Buzz was the first pick, Lucky the second. The dogs were not adoptable that day because they had just been picked up off the street and delivered to the pound. Dogs have to stay in the pound for three days so their owners have a chance to recover them before they are adopted. It was determined that Buzz and Lucky were both put out by their owners. Strays and living on the street. On the way home we talked it over and decided it would be better to get two dogs. They can take care of each other and have a playmate. On the morning of the third day we were the first in line when the doors opened. Both dogs were there and we adopted them. Josh was a proud papa of not one, but two dogs. On the way home he came up with the names Buzz and Lucky. Popular movie characters at the time. Buzz Light-year and Lucky from 101 Dalmatians.
Both dogs had a full life.
Access in or out of the house 24/7.
Food and water 24/7.
Big back yard to play in.
Shade trees to lie under during the … dog days of summer.
Riding in the back of the pick up truck all over Dallas and Ft Worth.
Trips to Home Depot.
Taking Josh to school. Oh how they looked forward to the morning ride to school.
Weekend and week long camping trips.
Soccer practice and soccer games.
Parties here at the house and at our friends houses.
Nascar.
Protected us at night.
Made sure there were no squirrals in the front or back yard.
Basically anywhere we were the dogs were there with us.
And when left at home they watched the house, all to happy to hear the sound of a diesl truck pulling up the driveway.
Buzz left us just about 2 years ago due to a stroke. She was not able to recover, lost most of her faculties and within 5 weeks, had to be put to sleep.
Lucky is 11 years old, has very, very bad hips and can hardly walk. She spends 23 hours a day laying on her pillow in the kitchen. Only to get up for a nibble of dog food, drink of water and go outside to potty. She can hardly make it thru the dog door anymore. The vet says there is nothing to help and she is in a lot of pain. It shows in her eyes, they are very sad. She does not need to suffer any longer. We have enjoyed the past 11 years having her here with us. I'm sure she enjoyed every body's kind heart and gentle touch. Lucky will be missed very much, but live on through memories and pictures. She will not have to suffer anymore and her pain will go away. Although her passing will be sad and lay heavy on our/your hearts, it is truly best for Lucky.
We thank you for your "Lucky" love
